Figure 21. (A) Peripheral blood smear film in patient with pyrimidine 5’ nucleotidase deficiency (NT5C3A c.128T>C p. L43P;c.441-444delC p.P148Pfs*13). Moderate anisopoikilocytosis with basophilic stippling 10%, sto- matocytes 6%, ovalocytes 4%, and spherocytes 2%.
(B) Peripheral blood smear film in patient with adenylate kinase deficiency (AK1 c.138delG homozygote p.V- 47Sfs45X). Mild anisopoikilocytosis with ovalocytes 5%, stomatocytes 2%, echinocytes 2%, and rare schistocytes.

Figure 22. Peripheral blood film in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Blood film picture is quite different depending on the phase of the disease. During acute crisis (A), it is characterized by damaged red cells with irregularly contracted blister and bite cells. The possible presence of erythroblasts is indicative of accele- rated erythropoiesis. During the chronic phase (B), the morphological abnormalities of the red blood cells are much less relevant. The patient shown in this picture had only mild anisopoikilocytosis with spherocytes 2% and ovalocytes 2%.
